A sunny and warm South West Ireland

Last week I took part in a photo-tour around the South West coast of Ireland organised by photographer Bruno Frangi (Phototravel, CH). The circumstances were perfect. We enjoyed a week with beautiful, sunny and warm weather. He took us to the western tip of the Dingle Peninsula, a largely Irish-speaking area rich in prehistoric and early Christian remains, with some of the world’s best coastal scenery. Thereafter we drove to Waterville, Kerry. Here we found beautiful places like Valencia Island and the colourful Port Magee.

Highlight was a boat trip to the Skellig Islands. These Skellig islands are world-famous, each in its own right: Skellig Michael is known throughout the world of archaeology as the site of a well-preserved monastic outpost of the Early Christian period – now designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site; Small Skellig is equally renowned in matters of ornithology as the home of some 27,000 pairs of gannets – the second largest colony of such seabirds in the world. Our last stop was Beara Peninsula. Gorgous mountains and a rugged coastline together with stone circles and the country’s best traditional music made this a great place not only for photographers.
